Thursday 14th January

Thursday 14th January

Purple Ribbon has been cancelled for today and rescheduled hopfully for tomorrow at 11:30am. Go and enjoy the snow once you've done your writing!

Short little virtual sessions today guys as I am at home and all my resources are in school! So will do my best and then make it short as the quicker you do the work; the quicker you can enjoy the snow while it's here!

Last day of virtual teaching then I will be setting work online for Friday- so work can be completed on your own time scale (rather than fitting around teams meetings!) and then uploaded onto the website- which lots of you have already worked out and have been doing already which is great!

I am aware lots of you haven't got access to a printer, and at this age we often use sheets because the children haven't the speed nor skills to present and lay out their work themselves. So if it helps to suggest this:- Get the sheet up on the screen to look at and work from visually and then write the answers in their book- ie. the sheet may have images of butterflies and ask how many there are, in your work book provided in the packs you can just write 1. 13 2. xx 3. xx etc.

Reception

Phonics:
As always, start by going through your speed sounds and making some words! For those of you getting really good at making CVC words, why not play a game of charades with your adult- one of you acts out a word (pig, hat, dog, rat...) and the other person has to guess what it is and make the word using the sound cards! If the adult amkes the word, the child has to 'mark' it using Freddy Fingers to decode and spell it out to check!

Back to RWi: Re-read the story; check your green and red words prior and this will help you to start and recognise these in the story. This time when you read the story, try to be more independent (the child)- (this might still be letter recognition independently and aided freddy fingers), encouraging freddy fingers and blending of the words, and recognition of the red words.
-Red ditty book 2 Got Him-V316199130.pdf-

Then todays task is : Hold a Sentence, with a focus on finger spaces!- If they find this hard, using alolly pop stick etc can help them to put the space at the end of each word. You can print out the below image or just write it into your lined book.

THE SENTENCE IS:  in the car got him (Sorry, just realised I forgot to write this part on, 10:25am.)

For hold a sentence, the adult says the sentence a few times and the idea is the child needs to internalise the words in the correct order to then reproduce them in writing. The adult says the sentence, and then the child says the sentence in different voices (robot, high pitched, baby etc..) to help them consolidate the sentence and its word order. Once they seem to have got it, they independently write out the sentence applying their writing skills. You can prompt them if and where needed etc!

Maths:
Rewatch the numberblocks video. Did you learn anything new? You can add this to your mind map! Discuss any key principles or misunderstandings.

Today would be our formation and 'written' work day if we were in school! So I would love for you to practise writing your number 6!
All of our numbers start at the top and for 6 we say "down, round and in"!

Have a look at this sheet below to work through!
  -6 formation sheet.pdf-

  -6 formation and do sheet.pdf-

Can you work out different ways of making 6? such as 1 and 5, 3 and 3... You could find 6 objects to help you split them in different ways!

Writing:
We will be doing all about rhyming today on Teams! This will link with the rhyming story and the rhyming sea shanty in Tuesday's story! Can you hear which words rhyme in the sea shanty?

Then below is a matching game to play! The writing part is writing some of the rhyming pairs (nap and map) into your red lined books. Remember to use Freddy Fingers and keep saying the words to try and hear the different sounds!
Year One

Phonics:

Have a think abck to the story, it was called Playdays because... it was all about playing! which is the focus for today's phonics- applying our writing skills!

You will need your orange RWi booklets and a pencils to write with (and again your cursive font sheet if you need a prompt!)

- Have a think prior to the session about what you like to play with; at school or at home!
- Have a think about what is speech?

Have a go at the first one remembering to use I in your writing about yourself, and then for the second set of speech bubbles, pretend its a picture of you playing in the snow and write about that! Enjoy the snow while it's here! ☃☃☃☃☃☃☃

Maths:
Have a go at making these different numbers using your 'base ten' (sticks and stones) or just drawing them out if you haven't collected any yesterday- you can have a go at making them on the tens and ones grid or the part whole models! Discuss with you adult how many tens and how many ones are in each number! Hopefully you have a better understanding of of where the ones are and where the tens are in a number, and also realsie that when you get 10 ones, you have to trade them in for a ten, which then moves into the tens column!

Then you will have to keep a close eye on Miss. Gregory today as she just keeps making mistakes... 🤔🤔🤔 Then I would love for you to go and enjoy the snow with a maths twist! Consolidating your tens and ones and doing some reasoning- being able to explain WHY you know an answer is right or wrong using your maths knowledge.

For example: You could use some snow balls for ones and draw lines in the snow for 10's sticks! Can you draw a part whole model to work in? You could even get some toys you don't mind getting wet to represent your tens and ones - cars for the ones and some tubes for the 10's... be as creative as you like learning while enjoying the snow while it's here!

For anyone not wishing to go out in the snow there is an interactive powerpoint below to work out the answers and then reveal to see if its right! Its all about being able to explain why- just like being able to say my answer was wrong BECAUSE I got the numbers the wrong way around!

W
riting:

We will have a look at rhyming words today, following on from the rhyming sea shanty in Tuesday's story and the rhyming story this afternoon.

Which words can you hear rhyming in the sea shanty?

Following the session I would love for you to have a go at coming up with some rhyming pirate themed words! Tomorrows task will be to write  a little sea shanty or a rhyming poem! This is just a little bit of fun as it's our first week of virtual learning, so see what you come up with to use for tomorrow! You can write your rhyming words in you red lined books.

Challenge: can you come up with more than one rhyming pair/couplet? How many words can you think to rhyme? See who can get the most and I will let you know on tomorrows page who came up with the most words to rhyme with their original pirate word!

Here are some pirate related words to get you started:

parrot ---- carrot
sword ---- bored
hat ---- flat
ship ---- hip
crows nest ----- best

If you are struggling to come up with key words related to pirates, then have a look below for inspiration and some key words! There is also an 'All about Pirates' print out in your packs with lots of key words for you to find!
