Coding in Computing

27 Jun 2023

In computing we have been learning about programming and coding. We started by using a robotic mouse, giving it instructions to get to some cheese! This got increasingly harder as we had to get the mouse through tunnels and around obstacles!
We then explored applying these skills to a bee-bot on the ipads, thinking about turns and directions.
Following on, we created our very own board games, whereby the children designed their board, characters and obstacles and moved them manually byhand following verbal and written instructions/coding!

This afternoon we have moved onto applying these skills to an app called Scratch Junior! The children have explored changing their characters look and name, adapting backgrounds and then looking at the different pieces of instruction that then were put together to create a code to programme their character to follow the given directions, instructions and tasks!

The children have thoroughly enjoyed this afternoon, so I felt it would be worth mentioning that Scratch Juniour is a FREE app to downlaod from the app store onto tablet devices.
