Class One Learning WC/ 25th November

What another exciting week! Not only was it DT week, but we also had careers day and a trip to Harrogate Theatre to see Beauty and the Beast!

We started off the week by reading our first Christmas story of 2024 and then looking at lots of different Christmas decorations!
We discussed what Christmas was, what people do, what decorations we put up and how to describe them! Then Reception were set the task of thinking of different ways they would like to decorate the classroom for Christmas, while Year One and Year Two discussed 'user' and 'need' and why some decorations go inside and some go outside.

KS1 then did some research on the chromebooks and discussed different materials used to make decorations. Next, we learnt all about running stitches and went through the process of threading a needle, tying a knot, doing a running stitch and then tying it off again at the end. After some practise, the children then designed their own hand-sewn Christmas decorations, had a go at joining two pieces of felt and then making a prototype of their design. After evaluating, the children designed their final design with the changes they wished to make, ready to make our final piece and evaluate!

Reception decided that Class One needed paper chains, snowflakes and baubles! They have used their cutting skills to make snow flakes, fine motor skills to do some bauble scratch art, used their sticking skills to make paper chains and in between had a go at doing their own running stitch!

On Tuesday, we had careers day where all the children from Fountains school came to join us for the day! We had a policeman in, an optician and a librarian to discuss what they do and how they help others, and discussed what we wanted to be when we were older!

On Thursday, we had our traditional North Stainley School outing to Harrogate Theatre to watch Beauty and the Beast! The children were super well behaved and showed our school off beautifully to the public, as well as enjoying the show and ice-cream in the interval! Even Bobby came with us this year!
