Class One Learning WC/ 24th February
We have had a great week being designers for DT week in Class One! See pictures below of the children in action!
Reception were tasked with learning new structural skills involving junk modelling resources. They explored how to make different joins and attachments, use different tools and materials and create group and individual outcomes! The tasks have been thoroughly enjoyed and have seen the children continue with junk modelling into their continuous provision and play! This has been excellent to see them have confidence in their news skills applying and exploring outside of directed tasks.
Key Stage One were tasked with producing a chair for Baby Bear. After reading Goldilocks and the Three bears, we identified the user and need of chairs. From here, Baby Bear wrote a letter with design criteria in to build him a chair, and the children explored new skills, including experimenting with the stability of different 3D plasticine shapes, working as a team to create a cylinder throne and then exploring making chairs using a variety of different materials; straws and pipe cleaners, paper and masking tape and junk modelling materials. The children then applied their new knowledge to create a design for their final chair for Baby Bear. On Monday the children will be creating and evaluating their final pieces.
We also gladly welcomed you all in for an open morning to have a look at your children's books and learning environment. It was lovely to hear so many of the children still talking about this come the afternoon, talking about how much they enjoyed showing you their hard work! To much fun was being had to get many pictures, but are few are posted below! Thank you to all that attending, it was a pleasure to welcome you in!
