Class One Learning WC/ 17th March
This week has been yet another busy one! We have enjoyed some time out in the sunshine, appreciating all the new signs of spring!
Reception have been exploring length and height in mathematics, making and measuring playdough worms! In phonics they have been reading longer words, compound words and words with the suffix -ing! They have enjoyed some Easter crafts whilst learning about the importance of Easter for Christians.
Key Stage One have been hooked into their new English Genre; Adventure Narratives! We went on an adventure story hunt and discuss the audience and purpose of the genre and the key features. In maths they have completed their measurements topic ready to move onto Fractions! In Science we looked at the 5 food groups and the importance of a balanced diet.
We had our World Religion Afternoon on Wednesday and learnt all about the Sikh Festival of Vaisakhi! The children learnt about the festival marking the founding of the Khalsa (the Sikh community) in 1699 and the start of the harvest season in Punjab. It's a time for Sikh community celebrations, parades, and spiritual reflection. The children enjoyed looking at photographs of the festival and hot seating how The Beloved Five must have felt.
We also all got dressed up wearing red on Friday for Comic Relief! The children had a great day with cakes and bakes, red noses, stickers, themed mathematics and silly face competitions! The final total is to be counted up and revealed- so watch this space!
