A few bits of news from St Mary’s!

Dear All
A few bits of news from St Mary’s!
Firstly, our new curate has arrived! His name is Simon Edens and you may have met him at the coffee morning last Saturday. We look forward to getting to know him. He will be ordained on Saturday at Ripon Cathedral and then welcomed at our joint service at West Tanfield down by the Riverside at 10.45am. This will be followed by a hog roast – always a great service and time together. All are welcome to come along. Please contact Christopher Bourne-Arton to book in and for further details and accessible access (
cwbatanfieldlodge@btinternet.com).
Talking about the coffee morning – thank you so much to all those who came and bought second hand books, printer cartridges and enjoyed delicious cakes etc! We raised well over £300 which was great – thanks also to all those who provided and served the coffee and cakes etc.
St Mary’s is the church for everyone in the North Stainley Community. We are very grateful to Chris and Craig who keep our churchyard mown but there are lots of other jobs which also need doing. So…. Bacon Church is going to be different in July. On
Thursday 18th July the school leavers service is at 9.30, to be followed by a church and churchyard workparty clean up from about 10.15….. so we will have earned our Bacon rolls at around 11.45! We hope to get people to come and help with some of the maintenance jobs – eg sweeping out the vestry, clearing the weeds along the back wall of the church, weeding graves , “deep cleaning” the church, polishing pews, maybe clearing out the sheds, cleaning the brass. … the list is endless – a real mix of inside and outside jobs suitable for all energy/activity levels! Please come and encourage others to come and take part. See attached poster. We need your help!
Thanks very much
Best wishes
Jane
