Village Events

08 Nov 2022

 Dear All

A heads up on a few things happening in the village this month…..

This Sunday (13th November) is Remembrance Sunday. As in the past few years, we will hold a short outdoor service in the churchyard at St Mary’s at 10.45am, weather permitting (otherwise inside the church). All are welcome to come along as we remember those involved in conflicts near and far, recent and historic.
You will have seen the knitted poppies decorating the village – this is the 4th year we have had them up. If anyone would like to make some more for next year (knitted or crocheted) that would be great! Please get in touch and I can supply patterns etc. Ripon seems to increase their displays every year! Maybe a job for the new year….!

Thursday 17th November is the next Bacon Church – 8.45-9.30. Drop into church and start the day with fresh coffee, tea and a bacon roll (vegetarian and gf alternatives available). A chance to meet others, chat and then we finish with a very short prayer for our community and world

Please see attached an invitation from The NS Trust to a Coffee Morning in the Village Hall on Saturday November 19th from 10.30 till 12.30 in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Do come along and support a good cause, chat to others (and eat cake!). This is the first of a series of social events planned for the next few months. (You might like to put Saturday 28 January, 12 till 2, in your new diary, for Soupy Saturday organised by St Mary’s. More details later!).

The Friends of North Stainley School are organising a Christmas Fair on Saturday 3rd December. They are looking for donations of Christmas jumpers, chocolate for the chocolate tombola, teddy bears or soft toys for the Teddy Tombola, raffle gifts and luxury food items to build hampers for the raffle. Also, on the day, baking and sweet treats for the church to sell! All donations gratefully received – please drop them into school and then come along and support the event itself!

The NS Baby and Toddler Group are supporting the Salvation Army foodbank and have a box for food donations inside St Mary’s. Donations of packets and tins gratefully received.

St Mary’s is also very grateful for your donations of used printer cartridges. We have probably raised just over £100 since the scheme started in April. Another box has just been sent off for recycling!

Since the covid lockdown, I have been sending these occasional emails with news from the village in a private capacity to those in the village for whom I have email addresses. The Thursday Supper Club then forward them to their members. If you know of others who would like to receive them, or if you would like to be removed from my distribution list, please let me know. Thank you.
Thanks

Best wishes

Jane Mansell
